Xeriscape Demonstration
Garden |

A Xeriscape Demonstration Garden that
has a combination of native and non-native drought tolerant plants is located adjacent to
the District office. Contrary to common belief, the majority of drought tolerant plants
don't have to look like cacti or other "desert" plants. There are a wide variety
of lush, flowering, drought tolerant plants that are both aesthetically pleasing and
require minimal amounts of water. All the plants in
the garden are labeled with both their botanical and common names as well as whether or
not they are native to the local region. |
| The District garden
is a good example of how drought tolerant plants can provide an attractive landscape. Our
garden is larger than 10,000 square feet in area and has various types of groundcovers,
shrubs, perennials, and trees. Many of our plants have fire retardant or salt spray
resistant qualities, and several of our groundcovers can be effective means of controlling
erosion. With the majority of the plants in full, vibrant bloom, this is an
opportune time to stop by and walk through the garden. |
