How to Read the Water Quality Chart

1. Choose a substance (parameter)

2. Note the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) allowed by law

3. Check the ideal goals set by Federal and State regulators (MCLG and PHG)

4. Compare levels in Montecito Water District supplies to the MCL and PHG

KEY TO ABBREVIATIONS

Note (a) = an average of 42 coliform samples collected each month at 10 district sampling stations in compliance with the Federal Coliform Rule.

NTU = Nephelometric Turbidity Units, a measure of clarity.

PCi/L = Pico Curies Per Liter, a measure of radioactivity.

PPM = Parts Per Million.

PPB = Parts Per Billion.

MCLG = Federal Maximum Contaminant Level Goal.

PHG = State Public Health Goal.

MFL = million Fibers Per Liter.

NA = Not Applicable.

Umho/cm = Micromhos Per Cubic Centimeter, indicator of dissolved minerals in water.

*MCLGs were never finalized.
