Farewell to
Bob Jones

Robert M. Jones, Director of Montecito Water District since 1998 and its general counsel for one-half century, died July 22, 2000. He was 84 years old.

In 1948, Jones joined the law firm of Price, Postel and Parma. During his career, Bob represented Montecito Water District and almost every other public agency in Santa Barbara County.

Bob helped negotiate the original water service contract for the Cachuma Project in the late 1940s, and later helped guide Montecito through a long period of drought during much of the 1970s and 1980s.

Bob will be missed as a respected attorney, expert on water, community leader, and as a long time friend and neighbor.

Periodically, severe natural droughts punish Montecito and surrounding communities. Only a decade ago, Montecito was wilting under a severe drought; leading to water rationing, brown landscapes and trees dying of thirst. Since that time, Montecito Water District has enhanced its water sources so that if one becomes unavailable, others can help keep Montecito green.
