to find areas of excess water use, and provide suggestions for reducing water waste. The
service is free of charge. |
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place in mid-December 1999, to
mark the opening phase of a precedent-setting plan to provide steelhead trout habitat on
the lower Santa Ynez River. The Fish Management Plan is a cooperative endeavor by agencies
associated with the Santa Ynez River and Lake Cachuma, as well as environmental groups and
local landowners interested in the future of steelhead on the river.
Plan Utilizes Local Creeks
In this inaugural step,
water from Lake Cachuma is released into Hilton Creek below Bradbury Dam. The water

A customer fills out a form that
poses basic questions about water uses in the house and external landscaping. An expert at
the Water District will provide an analysis to compare your water use with norms for your
type of property. If usage is high, suggestions will be offered on ways to reduce
excessive water use.

1993, local water agencies, including Montecito Water District, in cooperation with fish
and wildlife regulators, environmental groups and others, have been developing a plan to
improve fish habitat in the lower Santa Ynez River, while providing for the
communitys water needs. |

A helpful water audit is available free of charge
to all residential customers of Montecito Water District. The new voluntary program
advises customers whether their water use is high, average or low, and offers practical
suggestions for reducing areas of water waste.
